One of the lies we believe is “I am what I do!” Pastor Chris brings us this message about the truth of being God’s dearly loved child.

Sermon:  Lies We Believe – Performance Lies
Date: August 4 & 5
Digital bulletin

Scriptures:

Luke 4:1-2 Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where he was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry.

Hebrews 4:15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.

Luke 4:3 Then the devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread.”

Luke 4:4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone.’ ”

Luke 3:21-22  One day when the crowds were being baptized, Jesus himself was baptized. As he was praying, the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.”

John 1:12-13 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

Scriptures:

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. Deuteronomy 4:9 (NIV)

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” Deuteronomy 6:4 (NIV)

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:5-9 (NIV)

We have everything we already need in Jesus. Pastor Brent brings us this message about finding our purpose in Jesus’ purpose.

Sermon: Out of My Mind: How I Think About My Purpose
Date: July 21 & 22
Digital bulletin: https://notes.subsplash.com/fill-in/view?doc=HkQt3kb4X

Scriptures:

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. – Philippians 2:3-4 (NLT)

Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus – Philippians 2:5 (NRSV)

Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. – Philippians 2:6-8 (NLT)

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19 (NLT)

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. – Philippians 2:9-11 (NLT)

Sermon: Out of My Mind: How I Think About Things
Date: July 14 & 15
Digital bulletin

Scriptures:

Foxes have dens and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.  Matthew 8:20

Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things (the stuff) will be added to you. Matthew 6:33

Watch out!  Be on guard against all kinds of greed.  Life is not measured by how much you own Luke 12:15

For the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desire for things (stuff) come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful  Mark 4:19

You cannot serve both God and money (stuff)  Matthew 6:24
For the love of money (stuff) is the root of all kinds of evil.  It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many hurts.  I Timothy 6:10

Keep your life free from the love of money and be content with what you have.  Because He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

One person gives freely, yet gains the more.  One person withholds without reason, yet ends up in poverty.  A generous person will prosper. Proverbs 11:24,25

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.   I Timothy 6:17-19

Sermon: Out of My Mind: How I Think About Places

Digital bulletin: https://notes.subsplash.com/fill-in/view?doc=BkwfUtAzQ

Scriptures:

Luke 19:1-10

Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town.

There was a man there named Zacchaeus. He was the chief tax collector in the region, and he had become very rich. He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way.

When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled. Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”

Sermon: Out of My Mind: How I Think About People
Date: June 30 & July 1
Digital bulletin: https://notes.subsplash.com/fill-in/view?doc=H1ZJOF0ZX

Scriptures:

Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:5 NLT

For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 NLT

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 NIV

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23 NLT

If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? Matthew 18:12 NLT

After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. Revelation 7:9 NLT

Who Annoys you?   What is it that they do that is annoying?
One reason that we don’t share Christ with others in our world, is that they are annoying to us!  They don’t look, act, smell, or like the same things I like, so they aren’t worth my time!

Sermon: Learning to Help Those Who Annoy Me
Date: June 23 & 24
Digital bulletin

Scriptures:

Romans 15:1-3a:  We who are strong must be considerate of those who are sensitive about things like this. We must not just please ourselves. 2 We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. 3 For even Christ didn’t live to please himself.

Romans 15:5-6:  5 May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. 6 Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 15:7-9:  7 Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory. 8 Remember that Christ came as a servant to the Jews to show that God is true to the promises he made to their ancestors. 9 He also came so that the Gentiles might give glory to God for his mercies to them.

Romans 15:13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

1 Peter 4:10-11
10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
